A simple way to understand the difference is to think of voltage as water pressure and capacity as the amount of water available in a tank. Two tanks may have the same pressure, but one may contain much less water.
In the same way, two battery modules may display similar voltage readings while having very different usable capacities.
Why a Voltage Test Is Not Enough
A battery module can show a normal voltage while sitting unused. However, once a load is applied, the voltage may drop quickly because the module cannot deliver enough energy.
This is why a resting-voltage check does not provide a complete evaluation.
Capacity testing places the module through controlled charge and discharge cycles. The testing equipment measures how much energy the module accepts and how much it returns.
Modules with reduced capacity may reach their upper or lower voltage limits faster than stronger modules. In a hybrid battery pack, this can cause an imbalance that limits the performance of the entire system.

The gasoline engine may operate more often because the battery cannot support the vehicle for as long. Fuel economy may decrease, and the vehicle may provide less electric assistance.
Why Module Capacity Should Be Matched
A hybrid battery pack is limited by its weakest module or block. If most modules have strong capacity but one module has significantly less, the weaker module may reach its low-voltage limit first.
The vehicle must stop drawing energy from the pack to protect that module, even though the others may still have usable energy remaining.
The same issue can happen during charging. A weak or poorly matched module may reach its upper limit too quickly, preventing the rest of the battery from receiving a complete charge.

After the modules are selected, they must be balanced and assembled correctly. The complete battery should then be checked to confirm that the modules and electrical components operate properly together.

Are the modules capacity-tested? What minimum capacity is required? Are the modules tested under load? How closely are they voltage-matched? Is a limited warranty included?
